About Communities in Schools

Proven, Evidence-based Strategy

Communities In Schools: the only dropout prevention program in the nation proven to increase graduation rates.

Recent third-party findings confirm: “Of the many organizations working to improve student outcomes, Communities In Schools, through coordination of services, is proven to be more effective, and results in higher graduation rates, and higher percentages of students reaching proficiency in math and reading.”

Since its conception in 2006, Communities in Schools Greater Wichita Falls Area has placed Site Coordinators on all secondary campuses within Wichita Falls Independent School District.

Getting kids what they need – when they need it…

Children are individuals with very individualized needs. Our school-site coordinators respond quickly, on a case-by-case basis to get kids what they need – when they need it. Help can be as simple as providing eyeglasses to a child in need or as intensive as after-school tutoring; it all depends on the child.

In over 200 communities across 27 states, we work closely with schools, social services, businesses, and thousands of volunteers to get young people the things they need to learn and grow: mentors and tutors, after-school help, and family services to stabilize the home. Without these basic supports, kids in need or at-risk are far less likely to succeed and grow into productive adults.

Annual Town Hall Retreat

This year, August 3-5th, we had our First CIS of Wichita Falls Town Hall Retreat. The retreat consisted of community partner presentations, a special presentation and conversation with the CEO of Communities in Schools Ray Saldana, project operations training for staff, preparing them for the new school year; the annual board meeting, and a celebration of our organization for 14 years of service.

We also had some of our Alumni come as special guests to be a part of our retreat, and kick start our Alumni Association. All in all it was a success, and we cannot wait to get this year started with our Community Partners, Board, and Staff Team ready to go #Allinforkids and Impact our students lives and our community.
